"Gertrude's Stein" Tintype by Eric Retterbush
April 24, 11 am - 4pm at Riordan Mansion State Historic Park
Shakespeare is 457! Let’s party! Join FlagShakes at Riordan Mansion State Historic Park for an afternoon of music, party games, cupcakes, and more to celebrate the Bard’s special day! Patrons will sign up for a 1-hour session that includes a series of distanced activities located in two outdoor areas on the grounds of the mansion. Festivities will include live music, an auction of our tintype photography series collaboration with Eric Retterbush, a chance to get your own tintype photograph taken, traditional party games, birthday cake, and general revelry! Masks and temperature checks will be required to attend.
Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival collaborated with local Tintype photographer Eric Retterbush (whose work photographing essential workers has been featured in the Washington Post) to create a dynamic Shakespeare photography series in 2020. The series, titled “Rewritten” features 6 female characters from Shakespeare’s plays, presented in ways that “take back” their stories of tragedy and pain, giving them strength in their femininity. The series features 6 actors/models local to Arizona dressed in elaborate Elizabethan costumes. The tintypes bring a haunting quality to these characters that you do not want to miss. The original tintypes and other reproductions will be available to view and purchase at the event.
